Starship Mantis - (Set time: 10:30 PM)
Starship Mantis
Founded by bassist Beni Rossman, Starship Mantis is designed to cross the barrier of feel-good music and intellectual music, so as to make your mind and body communicate as one cohesive unit.

Starship Mantis strives to bring together people of multiple creeds, mottos, flavors, spices, and walks of life to unify the human experience. Our mission is to transcend single genre stereotypes. Coining the term "Unity Music”, this groove oriented style collects from multiple genres and cultures and is meant to combine the philosophies of each style used. It incorporates sounds of Hip Hop, Funk, Jazz-Fusion, Pop, Rock, EDM and more.

Starship Mantis began in late 2016 when Beni Rossman, one of Pittsburgh’s go-to bassists, called together standout individuals from a number of projects he had participated in over the years. Rossman’s ultimate goal was to combine the musical and cultural roots of Jazz, Funk, Hip-hop, and EDM into an intellectually and physically stimulating experience. With the help of his colleague Langston Kelly (lead vocals/horns), Rossman began piecing together the sounds and persona of Starship Mantis. “It’s a sound you don’t expect to come from Pittsburgh,” says Kelly. “It gets the people excited and gives them something to be proud of.”

Within a week of launching their social media campaign, Starship Mantis received a good deal of excitement on Facebook, and the videos they released early on have now received thousands of views. With that kind of buzz, it wasn’t hard for the band to begin booking regular gigs at venues around the city. Just a few months from its inception, Starship Mantis was performing to packed rooms and has shared the stage with the likes of Cory Henry and the Funk Apostles.
